Hello friends and welcome to Moments Almanac. Today is June the 11th, 2026, and this is a time for us to remember the people, places, and events that leave fingerprints on the soul. Hope you're having a good day. Let's jump right in and remember that today many Christian communities celebrate the life of Barnabas, known in Scripture as the Son of Encouragement. We also remember the birthday of Jacques Cousteau, born June 11, 1910. Some of you may remember those great documentaries from Jacques Cousteau, whose explorations opened a hidden world beneath the sea to millions of people, including me as a young child. Barnabas explored the depths of the human heart, and Jacques Cousteau explored the depths of the ocean. Both remind us that some journeys are too important to make alone. Barnabas saw something in people that others missed. When the church feared Paul, Barnabas stood beside him. When John Mark failed, Barnabas gave him another chance. Again and again, Barnabas helped others go deeper into God's calling. Cousteau once spent his life descending into waters few people had ever seen, yet even the greatest explorer did not dive alone. Deep water requires trust. It requires companions. It requires people who watch your back when the pressure increases. And that's kind of like Barnabas as well. Many of us want a deeper faith, deeper wisdom, deeper communion with Christ, and yet God often takes us deeper through relationships, as hard as they are, with mentors, friends, churches, and encouragers who walk beside us. As Proverbs reminds us, iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another. Sometimes it's hard because people can be difficult. The poet and humanitarian Kent Keith wrote a couple of these lines from his immortal poem. People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. That's the encouraging spirit. So today, no matter where you are, no matter what denomination you find yourself in, let's honor the legacy of Barnabas. Let's find someone hanging out in the bottom land and lift them up. That's today's Moments Almanac. I hope you'll join me tomorrow. Until then, take care. Notice the scattered moments and share the grace.
