Bonus Song | Psalm 13 | How Long, O Lord
“How long, O Lord?” It is one of the most honest prayers in Scripture—and sometimes one of the hardest prayers to pray. Inspired by Psalm 13, “How Long, O Lord?” is a song for the long night of waiting: the prayer we have prayed a hundred times, the answer that has not yet come, and the silence that makes us wonder whether God is listening. “How long, O Lord?”
It is one of the most honest prayers in Scripture—and sometimes one of the hardest prayers to pray.
Inspired by Psalm 13, “How Long, O Lord?” is a song for the long night of waiting: the prayer we have prayed a hundred times, the answer that has not yet come, and the silence that makes us wonder whether God is listening.
David asks “How long?” four times in the opening verses of Psalm 13. Yet remarkably, the psalm never tells us that David's circumstances changed. Instead, something changes within David. His lament becomes remembrance, and remembrance becomes trust:
“But I will trust in your unfailing love.”
That same movement shapes this song. It begins quietly in the weariness of unanswered prayer and gradually rises toward a simple confession:
How long, O Lord?
However long, I will trust You.
Sometimes faith isn't receiving the answer we hoped for. Sometimes faith is discovering that while we are still waiting, God remains faithful.
The final words return to David's own conclusion: God has been good. God has been faithful.
And so we will sing while we wait.
Inspired by Psalm 13 and the Psalms Reflections episode from Scattered Moments.

I know you have not changed. Oh Lord, I will wait on you. Oh Lord. I will wait on you. You hear my cry, you keep me close. I will wait on you. My heart feels thin like it might take you. I look for signs, but the day still comes the same, still in my ache. I remember what is true. You have held me here. You have not let me go. So I lift my eyes. Above the night and pain, you are the same. Your mercy still. I will wait on you. You hear my cry. You keep me close. I will wait on you. But I will trust in your unfailing love. But I will trust in your unfailing love. My feet may shake, my soul may sigh, but I will trust in your unfailing love. However long I'll trust you. So I will sing while I wait. You have been good. You have been faithful. And I will sing while I wait.
